The Association of European Journalists-Bulgaria (AEJ-Bulgaria) organizes two trainings on the topic Newsgathering & Digital Storytelling in cooperation with Google News Lab. They will take place on 17th of April (Tuesday) at JA Startup Hambar, 111 Tsarigradsko shose Blvd., Sofia Tech Park and are targeted at two separated groups – journalists (from 10:00 to 12:00h) and students (from 14:00 to 16:00h). This session will equip the participants with practical research tips with case studies and examples from across Europe. The basic tools will be highlighted in order to help them verify social media content across Google. There will be data journalism tools that can help in researching and visualising ideas, including a deep dive on how Google Trends can compliment storytelling. The journalists and students, who attend the trainings, will immerse themselves in virtual reality, explore 360 degree video and see how publishers from around the world are using cutting edge technology (and on a budget). From a breaking news situation to a feature length article – they will learn how Google Maps and Earth Pro images can complement social media posts or add a visual element to their articles. Participants will dive into storytelling with Maps, find examples with StreetView and discover tools where audio brings panoramic images to life.

Among his most recent journalistic endeavors are working as senior reporter at HFMWeek, London, and working at Citywire, where he was leading the Modern Investor’s Global WOW (Who Owns What) project. For several years he has been deputy editor in Dziennik Gazeta Prawna – Poland’s largest business daily.
The participation in the trainings is free of charge, but places are limited and preliminary online registration is required. The deadline is 16:00 h on April 16, 2018. Good command of English is a must, no translation will be provided.
The events take place in partnership with Google News Lab and with the support of America for Bulgaria Foundation.
