Do the ideas for changes it the Criminal Code threaten the freedom of information and what was the part of the media in the bank crises a month ago? These are some of the topics, which you can find in analyses and radio discussions in the new online platform for journalists of AEJ – Bulgaria.
The platform http://www.aej-bulgaria.org is created within the Mediator project* and offers opportunities for professional development in the journalist sphere – grants, scholarships, international seminars. Significant part of the project are the upcoming video trainings in Bulgarian on topics like covering conflicts, work with EU institutions and databases. Beside the online activities, there are planned series of meetings and “live” discussions for support of the independent journalism and the ethics in the local media.
“The end goal of Mediator project is to create conditions for high quality and independent journalism, as well to unite the professional community in a way that the decisions for the problems in the media to come from the journalist themselves. That’s why we hope to receive feedback from the journalist about the topics, which are important for discussions and analyses, according to them”, says Kristina Hristova, President of AEJ – Bulgaria.
On the redesigned web site you can find a series of analyses on topics of present interest for the media. Among these are the topic of lawyer Alexander Kashamov about the influence of the law changes on the freedom of expression in Bulgaria in the last few years, the topic of the journalist Spas Spasov about the evolution of hate speech in the Bulgarian political and media space, as well comments and suggestions of members of the AEJ team for improvement of the media self regulation.
*The Mediator project is being carried out with the financial support of America for Bulgaria Foundation and the media partnership of dnevnik.bg, offnews.bg, clubz.bg, and mediapool.bg.
