A practical seminar for reporting on women’s issues announced

Thomson Reuters Foundation organizes a 6-day intensive practical course designed to help journalists fine-tune their skills and enhance their coverage of women’s issues, opinions and empowerment.  The event will take place between November 11 – November 16, 2012  in Barcelona, Spain.
Participants will attend four days of classes and then have two days of the News Xchange conference. Themes covered will include: a critical assessment of women’s rights coverage in the global media; choosing the best angle for your story; presentation skills and writing for greater impact;bringing narrative quality to the news organization (story-telling); ethics and fact-checking; conveying local (or national) stories for a global audience; and safety for female journalists.
Applicants for training course must have two years of professional experience as journalists or as regular contributors to broadcast or print media. They must demonstrate a strong interest in women’s issues and a commitment to journalism in their countries. A good level of written and spoken English is required, the organizers explain.
