The Association of European Journalists-Bulgaria (AEJ-Bulgaria) organizes training on “Fact checking & News verification” together with the Google News Lab. The training will be held on 5th of March (Tuesday) in the hall of the French Institute in Bulgaria (3, “Petko R. Slaveikov” Square), Sofia. Special guest and trainer will be Marek Miller, a Google News Lab representative for Central and Eastern Europe.
Practical tips for searching of information and real-life case studies from across Europe will be presented. Online tools for verifying facts, news, videos and photos will be demonstrated. Among the highlights are:
– Reverse photo search
– Google Maps and Google Earth
– Google Translate
– YouTube
– Other tools like picodash, who.is, wayback machine, suncalc, video news debunker and so on. “The workshop is an eye-opener to those worried about the future of journalism as well as those who still think fake news is just another buzz word”, said Marek Miller.
Marek Miller has been working in the media and journalism field for almost 15 years. For a large part of this time he worked for one of the largest regional publishers in Poland (Polska Press Group), and therefore had a chance to witness Polish newspapers’ digital transformation process from the inside from the very beginning. For many years he’s been cooperating with the Dallas-based media organisation INMA (International News Media Association).
The training is free of charge, but places are limited and participants must register online in advance. The deadline is 16:00 on 4th of March, 2019. Good command of English is required, there will be no translation provided.
