Tim Hetherington Grant for professional photographers

The Tim Hetherington Grant is an annual grant awarded to a photographer to finalize a project on a human rights theme.
The 2012 Tim Hetherington Grant is now open to application. The call for applications takes place around October each year and is open to professional photographers who have participated in a recent World Press Photo Contest. In 2011, the grant was awarded to American photographer Stephen Ferry for his project Violentology.
Grant
The annual grant, worth € 20,000, will be awarded to a photographer to complete an existing project on a human rights theme. The judges will look for the qualities that defined Tim’s career when reviewing the applications: work that operates on multiple platforms and in a variety of formats; that crosses boundaries between breaking news and longer-term investigation; and that demonstrates a consistent moral commitment to the lives and stories of the photographic subjects.
Application and selection
The application process is open to all professional photographers who have participated in a World Press Photo competition between 2008 and 2012. The deadline for applications is 15 November. The selection committee will convene in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and will announce the name of the recipient of the grant on 10 December.
