Controversial Media Ownership Amendments have been adopted by the Bulgarian Parliament
On July 4th, Bulgarian parliament adopted, on the first reading, some general amendments regarding media ownership with 92 votes in favour, 12 against and 28 abstentions. In February, the bill was submitted to parliament by four MPs from the Movement of Rights and Freedoms (MRF), among which was Delyan Peevski, media mogul, owner of several key medias in Bulgaria and numerous businesses.

The Association of European Journalists - Bulgaria in partnership with the Bulgarian-American Fulbright Exchange Commission launches a media literacy program, which includes up to 30 high schools across Bulgaria. Media Literacy in the Classroom initiative aims to improve students' skills to critically assess and interpret news and information they consume. Journalistic clubs and online school media will also be set up in order to supply stories for a national online platform. The program will provide media literacy classes to a wider group of students who are not involved in the journalistic clubs.

The Association of European Journalists-Bulgaria in partnership with the Bulgarian-American Commission for Educational Exchange (Bulgarian Fulbright Commission) are organizing a workshop on data journalism. The Association of European Journalists-Bulgaria (AEJ-Bulgaria) organizes two trainings on the topic Newsgathering & Digital Storytelling in cooperation with Google News Lab. They will take place on 17th of April (Tuesday) at JA Startup Hambar, 111 Tsarigradsko shose Blvd., Sofia Tech Park and are targeted at two separated groups - journalists (from 10:00 to 12:00h) and students (from 14:00 to 16:00h). A special guest and a trainer would be Daniel Rzasa, a Google News Lab Teaching Fellow for CEE.
