The Association of Bulgarian Journalists (AEJ)-Bulgaria invites journalists and students in journalism to participate in a training on practical skills for access to information. The seminar, organized with the support of the European Commission’s Representation in Bulgaria, will be lead by Alexander Kashamov, lawyer and member of the non-governmental organization Access to Information Programme (AIP). The event will take place on 4th of May 2011, on the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day (3th of May).
The lecture will be based on interesting cases from the legal practice. In addition, the training will include practical guidelines for working with databases for the purpose of journalists’ investigations on diverse range of topics.
Using databases as a source for interesting storylines for journalists’ articles is one of the latest trends in the media on worldwide level. For that reason, various international organizations have already adapted their online databases in a way to serve as a useful tool for the investigations of journalists and NGOs. The website of the Eurostat offers broad opportunities for media professionals and experts from the non-governmental sector, as they can create by themselves graphs and illustrations connected with economic, social, demographic and other problems on EU-level for their articles. As a part of the seminar, the manager of the media Evropa.Dnevnik Kristina Hristova will give a lecture on the use of Eurostat’s latest database tools.
The program includes also a presentation providing guidelines for using the EU legal databases and information for the legal entities engaged in economic activities. Lecturer on the topic is Boycho Georgiev, Head of Law Information Systems Department, Ciela publishing company.
The seminar will be held in the Information Office of the European Commission’s Representation in Bulgaria (9 Moskovska Str., Sofia) on May 4, 2011, from 15.30 to 17.30. There is no participation fee, but due to the restricted number of places, a preliminary registration is required.
If you would like to participate in the seminar, please send a short motivation to [email protected] or to Kristina Hristova, Secretary-General of AEJ-Bulgaria : [email protected].
