EU Health Prize for Journalists 2011

The EU Health Prize for Journalists 2011 will be awarded to stimulate high-quality journalism that raises awareness of issues related to healthcare and patients’ rights.
The Prize is part of the “Europe for patients ” campaign, highlighting 12 health policy initiatives. All these are bound by a common goal: better healthcare for all in Europe.
The Prize will reward journalists who have contributed in a significant way to help citizens understand health issues, and through their work reflect patients’ and health workers’ expectations and thoughts. There will be a special prize for articles on “smoking cessation “.
The Prize will be awarded in the spirit of respect for media freedom and pluralism and in the context of the Commission’s desire to improve communication between the European Institutions and the European citizens.
The selection of the winner will be a two-step procedure:
1) National juries, one for each Member State, will select one national nominee .
2) An EU jury will select the winner and two runners-up of the EU-wide award.
The Europe for Patients campaign and the journalist prize are funded under the second community health programme 2008-2013.
