AEJ-Bulgaria expresses support to the Macedonian colleague Tomislav Kezarovski

The Association of European Journalsits-Bulgaria is very concerned with the recent developments in Macedonia where the journalist Tomislav Kezarovski is being held in custody and made to reveal his sources for an article he wrote in 2008. It is unacceptable for a country which strives for recognition of its democratic processes and accession to the European Union, to use its judicial system to harass and threaten journalists.
Macedonia is currently ranked 116 in the Press Freedom Index, measured by Reporters Without Borders, where it dropped from 94th place just a year before.
It signals a rapid deterioration of the media environment in the country and the current case with Mr Kezarovski shows exactly what that means for the people who work in it. AEJ-Bulgaria expresses support to our colleague and his family in these troubling times and is looking forward to the prompt and just resolution of this case.
