АЕЖ-България се присъединява към множеството журналисти, редакции, защитници на свободата на печата, правозащитници и журналистически организации, които се включват в инициативата на Международния Институт по печата (International Press Institute) и призовават за освобождаването на Мзия Амаглобели.
Долуподписаните журналисти, редакции, защитници на свободата на печата, правозащитници и журналистически организации призовават грузинските власти незабавно да освободят журналистката ветеран Мзия Амаглобели, която е в гладна стачка от пет седмици след ареста й в началото на януари.
На 18 февруари Мзия обяви край на гладната стачка, след като лекари предупредиха, че животът ѝ е непосредствено застрашен.
На 11 януари, на фона на правителствените репресии срещу про демократичните протести, Мзия беше арестувана по несъразмерно обвинение в нападение над полицай – обвинение, за което се предвижда до седем години затвор – след пререкание с полицейски началник в Батуми. Оттогава тя е несправедливо задържана в следствения арест, където започва гладна стачка в знак на протест срещу лошото отношение към нея и срещу по-широките репресии в Грузия.
На 4 февруари Мзия е преместена в болница, където лекарите я предупреждават, че скоро ще получи органна недостатъчност. Съдебното заседание за преразглеждане на задържането на Мзия е насрочено за 4 март.
На Мзия ѝ предстои дълга рехабилитация, за да възстанови здравето си, и не трябва да бъде връщана в затвора.
Мзия е основател и директор на Batumelebi и Netgazeti – два от най-популярните и уважавани грузински онлайн новинарски портали, които отразяват корупцията и злоупотребата с власт. През цялата си кариера Мзия е проявявала примерна смелост и непоколебим ангажимент в защита на демократичните ценности, свободата на пресата и правата на журналистите.
Арестът на Мзия се случва по време на бруталното потушаване на демократичните протести и ескалиращите атаки срещу независими журналисти.
Мзия изпрати следното съобщение от затворническата си килия:
„Тези процеси се разгръщат през последната година и се вграждат в ежедневието ни като диктатура. Свободата е много по-ценна от живота и тя е поставена на карта. Борете се, преди да е станало твърде късно […] Няма да се преклоня пред този режим. Няма да играя по неговите правила.“
Грузинските власти трябва незабавно да освободят Мзия, да оттеглят несъразмерните обвинения срещу нея и да проведат независимо разследване на твърденията за малтретиране срещу нея.
Подкрепяме Мзия Амаглобели, нейните колеги от Batumelebi и Netgazeti, както и всички независими журналисти в Грузия.
